We found this little gem from great reviews and it did not disappoint! Hubby had the fish tacos and I had the yummy and filling tuna poke bowl. Fresh, delicious, and creative food cooked by one chef! No bagged sauce, no salty sides, just fresh, great food. Will def be returning!

After my first visit, and a group of us ordering various items and sharing, I was convinced that everything on the menus was delicious. I was correct. I came back to order the burrito...holy moly. The BEST burrito I've ever had. The chef pulled a fresh fish out cleaned it in front of me and proceeded to make with passion the holy grail of burritos that makes chipotle look like a greasy fast food chain... with chorizo, shrimp, and even cooked it in a local nsb beer...hands down my new favorite spot...don't blow it up ok?

This place is wonderful! We had a group of 12 for a birthday party. Josh was our sever and he was print, attentive, and fun! The food was delicious (I had the Cuban, the poke was also phenomenal) and they know how to treat a birthday girl! The dessert didn't sound good on the menu, but was absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!

Great wine. Great craft beer and happy hour. Live music and amazing food! Love this place! Get the poke! Service was spot on.

Awesome food and service. I didn't expect the inside to be so small, as there are more tables outside than in. Great menu at a value fit to please a foodie. Beer and wine only and they have just one highchair (for anyone dining with little ones outside).

Its absolutely amazing and exciting that NSB has finally started to attract restaurants that embrace a more modern dining experience while continuing to incorporate Florida's abundances of fresh seafood and culturally correct cuisine. With the opening of Hemingway's Hideout Chef Ryan has definitely raised the bar, and has made a significant impact on this small beach-town in a very short time. Located only a few steps off of Flagler Avenue this small intimate restaurant has already grabbed the attention of the locals and proves it's not that difficult to become a year around favorite and eliminates the reliances of the seasonal influx of snow birds and out of town beach goers to be successful. I've never understood how lousy service and mediocre food could be an acceptable practice which I believe has plagued this area for many years, as more of these stylistic restaurants open and some of the existing restaurants re-invent themselves to compete I find less reason to go outside our community to dine out. When a restaurant that has been open for only a short time has legendary references made about its food believe me people take notice. This restaurant's small stature not only enhances the personal experience for the customer but also allows the Chef to create a variety of dishes that are pleasing to your entire sensorium. This is definitely a place you will want to try.

I had high expectations after reading the reviews. There are three high top tables and bar inside. There are many regular tables outside but no fans. There are two workers....server and chef(co owner). It is relaxed service and not rushed. I had the Cajun bacon mahi(fish of day) tacos. Fish was good and mild flavored...I didn't taste the Cajun at all. All I tasted was the cabbage slaw in the taco. You get a choice of flour or corn tortilla. It's served with black beans and sticky white rice. Beans didn't have much flavor. The burrito had a spice to eat, but contained a lot of rice! The Banana bread pudding is a MUST! It is topped with homemade whip cream... The best I've ever had! This dessert is very good for $8. It is served warm. Overall, service was ok. We had to ask for drink refills. Food took about 15 minutes. Parking on the street and NOT behind restaurant. Small menu. They have beer on tap and get their ice tea from shop across the courtyard. I will rush back for bread pudding, but not for the meals.

An adorable, quaint little place tucked back off the main drag. It's small inside (a bar that seats 20 maybe? And 3 four person tables.) but there was a good amount of outdoor seating. We loved the atmosphere. You can watch ryan, the chef, work from the bar or your table which was really cool. He talked to us several times through out our meal. Everything is made to order and really fresh. I ordered the fish tacos. Best fish tacos I've EVER had. They had so much flavor! Ryan said he made one taco with one type of local fish and the other with another and wanted to know which fish I liked best! They were both incredible. My husband has a big appetite so the waitress recommended the HH burrito. My husband loved it and said he was stuffed after he ate it, which is rare at a restaurant for him. Because our meal was so good and fresh, we were really curious how good Ryan's deserts would be. We ordered a banana bread pudding to split. There are no words for how good it was. We literally watched Ryan whip the cream by hand! Amazing!!! Hemingway's hideout is outstanding. Go here! You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back.

Quick stop. Just too busy.. 4 months new. awesome service! I plan to return. We had the pokè bowl over seaweed salad-a mazing! And a bonus desert of banana bread pudding! :)

hubby & i stopped in for lunch. we shared the infamous poke bowl & tuna burger w/ bread pudding for dessert. i don't even have the words to describe the satisfaction we felt when we rolled out of there. it was so insanely divine, we made reservations for dinner. for dinner we chose the bacon wrapped prime rib special that was served w garlic mashed potatoes. needless to say, ryan did not disappoint! the ambiance is perfect for my speed: dark, intimate, chic & service was casual yet attentive. i consider myself to be a bit of a foody that easily irritated paying for a meal that i can cook better for myself at home. i left hemmingway's hideout feeling nothing close to irritated. i would be surprised if this place doesn't make it to the top lists of places to visit very soon.

The chef here, Ryan, was one of the first to introduce the poke bowl to NSB, and now they're freaking everywhere, (not that that's a bad thing). Ryan is back serving up his simple but tasty vittles at Hemingway's. Despite it's kitschy and cliché namesake, it's a delightful little place, which is set up more as a Tapas bar than a restaurant, but the courses are put up restaurant style. The restaurant is truly tiny, maybe ten seats, tops. They have beer and wine, and the prices are fairly reasonable. When I went here, the place had just opened, so they were still getting their bearings set. Even so, I ordered the old faithful Poke Bowl, and it was delicious. Ryan is a spot-on and classically trained chef, and I'm sure his dishes will please even discerning palates.

Not many vegetarian options but the staff was really accommodating for me and made me a rice bowl with beans and pico for only $4! It was great

Hidden Gem in New Smyrna Beach. We had the flatbread pizza appetizer and Poke Tacos and they were amazing. Definitely a must try place.

The Cuban is as legendary as reported, a creamy, decadent twist on the traditional. Might be my favorite thing. But the poke was also PHENOMENAL. Like butter. (Buttah!) Shad's bread pudding is to die for, too. Can't wait to come back and try some specials. NSB sure needs a swanky little laid-back joint like this with fresh and elevated flavors, and it's perfect. The food can't be beat.

Poke tacos!!! Cuban flatbread enough said oh and the 2.5 burrito chef Ryan can cook his ass off

Straight to the point review. Tuna (sashimi quality) burger : Off the charts, perfect balance of sear/raw'ness Shrimp Tacos : Excellent flavor and freshness Flat Breads : Beautiful and savory We had enough to take home for another yummy mixup meal. Go there.

Great place. Seems like all the locals come here. Just reopened. The Poke tacos are out of this world. Also the Fish tacos are awesome. To finish it off you got to have their white chocolate banana bread pudding.

Amazing dinner! Great meal, great service! Ryan, the chef-owner, puts his heart and soul in the menu and restaurant, and it shows! From his staff to the atmosphere (and of course the food!) He is rocking it! All fish is spear caught and fresh within days. The Poke - anything- is phenomenal. We had the poke bowl and the filet special and it was to die for! The server saw us salivating over the bread pudding our table neighbors enjoyed, but we were too full to order more, and he brought us a small taste just to brag about how good it was. Rightfully so! You will not be disappointed! The acoustic guitar in the courtyard was a nice touch too.

Every year when we visit NSB we try a different restaurant. The other night we tried Hemingway's Hideout. What a wonderful meal we were treated to! My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich and loved it. The rest of us were in the mood for something lighter. Ryan, the chef, suggested an off the menu fish and vegetable dish. It was excellent! The fish was just hours out of the water and was filleted by Ryan just before cooking. The price was great and service was friendly and prompt. In other words, next year we probably won't be looking for a new place to try. We already found the best place in New Smyrna Beach.

Amazing food in a low profile location on Flagler. Seafood creations by the chef/owner are unique and tasty. Service is excellent with a young and enthusiastic staff. Loved the poke tacos. Nice beer and wine selection.

We were in town for our wedding and we stumbled upon this little gem! I am a lover of cuban sandwiches and this is one of the best that I've ever had- so flavorful and tasty! My husband adores poke and, according to him, this was really delicious. We loved it so much that we actually came here for lunch and drinks two days in a row. Can't wait until we get back to NSB to stop in again!
(5)Lynne B.
Best cuban sandwich I have ever had and I have tried a lot. The service was wonderful and Chef Ryan even let us sample a couple of items and helped us pick our dishes. We were not disappointed. Will make this a regular. I am already dreaming of that cuban again. Will be back soon.

This chef is CRAZY talented!! I just moved here from Raleigh, NC and we have quite the "food scene." I was so worried I would not be able to find food in this area to satisfy my palette. I am so happy we stumbled on Hemingway's Hideout. Such amazing flavors and wonderful fresh food!! My cannot wait to go back this will ABSOLUTELY be my "go-to" spot for any night out. You are insane if you do not give this restaurant and this chef a try. Food is SPECTACULAR! Service is wonderful and restaurant is very clean!

Small location set off from Flagler Avenue. Great long bar and a few indoor tables. Food menu is limited but very good. The stuffed shrimp lionfish was spectacular. Service is friendly and attentive.
